Remote Security Onion Specialist — AI Research & Domain Evaluation

We are seeking a detail-oriented Remote Security Onion Specialist — AI Research & Domain Evaluation ($90 - $175/hour, 100% remote) to join ZR Talent Group. Contributors in this role draw upon real-world mastery of Security Onion to evaluate AI-generated deliverables, construct detailed grading rubrics, and guide post-training model alignment.

Prior experience building machine learning systems is not required—our research partners value authentic practitioner judgment, domain rigor, and clear analytical writing.

Key Responsibilities & Deliverables

• Complete assigned workflows and tasks within Security Onion using your practical cybersecurity experience.
• Navigate Security Onion features related to network monitoring, alert investigation, log analysis, threat detection, and incident response.
• Analyze security alerts, network traffic, logs, and other relevant security data within Security Onion.
• Record your screen while completing assigned workflows and clearly demonstrate the steps taken.
• Create realistic prompts and detailed rubrics based on completed workflows.
• Document workflow steps and clearly explain the tools, features, and investigation techniques used.
• Audit, critique, and score task outputs for accuracy and alignment with project guidelines.
• Follow project instructions and quality standards while working independently in a remote environment.

Required Qualifications & Technical Criteria

• Demonstrated professional or advanced academic background in Security Onion.
• Strong analytical writing and critical evaluation skills in English.
• Self-directed work ethic suited for an asynchronous, 100% remote research environment.

Preferred Experience & Bonus Attributes

• Strong hands-on experience using Security Onion for security monitoring, threat detection, or incident investigation.
• Prior Human Data experience, such as data annotation, labeling, RLHF, AI response evaluation, model evaluation, or similar work.
• Current access to Security Onion and ability to use the application independently.
• Comfortable recording and sharing your screen while completing workflows.
• Meticulous analytical precision and ability to clearly explain technical workflows.

Compensation, Remote Eligibility & Schedule

• Compensation Band: $90 - $175/hour
• Work Model: 100% Remote / Work From Home with flexible asynchronous scheduling
