Role Overview & Full Requirements
ZR Talent Group has an active remote opening for a Remote SolidWorks Specialist — AI Research & Domain Evaluation ($40 - $100/hour). This flexible work-from-home role pairs experienced practitioners in solidworks, parametric-cad-modeling, gd&t, dfm with leading machine learning laboratories to author high-difficulty prompts, verify factual and technical rigor, and refine multi-step reasoning outputs.
Prior experience building machine learning systems is not required—our research partners value authentic practitioner judgment, domain rigor, and clear analytical writing.
Key Responsibilities & Deliverables
- Create fully-parametric 3D CAD models of mechanical parts and assemblies based on written briefs, focusing on robust feature trees and precise constraints.
- Edit and update existing parametric models to meet new technical requirements, ensuring complete documentation of changes.
- Audit and review models for dimensional accuracy, proper tolerance application, and manufacturability across various processes.
- Apply deep knowledge of DFM principles for injection molding, sheet metal, CNC machining, and casting/forging throughout modeling tasks.
- Translate design intent and requirements into clear, structured CAD data suitable for AI model training.
- Communicate effectively with project coordinators and fellow contributors through detailed written reports and verbal updates.
Required Qualifications & Technical Criteria
- Demonstrated professional or advanced academic background in solidworks, parametric-cad-modeling, gd&t, dfm.
- Strong analytical writing and critical evaluation skills in English.
- Self-directed work ethic suited for an asynchronous, 100% remote research environment.
Preferred Experience & Bonus Attributes
- 4+ years of hands-on parametric CAD experience (SolidWorks, FreeCAD, Fusion 360, or Autodesk Inventor) for editing, and 10+ years for creation of complex assemblies.
- Practical application of GD&T per ASME Y14.5 or equivalent standards in real-world manufacturing contexts.
- Track record in supporting at least two or more manufacturing methods: injection molding, sheet metal, CNC, or casting/forging.
- Current, active involvement in mechanical/industrial CAD modeling.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with emphasis on clear, concise project documentation.
- Reverse engineering capability (e.g., scan-to-CAD, point cloud conversions) considered a significant advantage.
- Practical background using assembly-level modeling and, optionally, automating CAD workflows via scripting (Python, iLogic, VBA, etc.).
Compensation, Remote Eligibility & Schedule
- Compensation Band: $40 - $100/hour
- Work Model: 100% Remote / Work From Home with flexible asynchronous scheduling
- Eligible Remote Locations: United States, Canada, United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand, Ireland, and South Africa
